Lisbon

Lisbon is the city of light. This beautiful medieval city with its many church spires and impressive domes, is a patchwork of colour and shapes that rises along side the estuary of the Tagus River.

The rebuilt lying area of the historic centre, the Baixa and the principal avenues leading there date to the 18th century when this area was completely rebuild, in the Parisian style, as a result of the earthquake in 1755. The hills surrounding the Baixa, Chiado, Alfama, & Bairro Alto have buildings dating back to the 10th century.

Notice Lisbon's unique architecture and iron work, details that are lost in many European cities due to steel shortages during the great wars. The beautiful hand painted tiles on the buildings, the old trams, washing hanging from verandas, the cobbles on the streets and above all the bustle of a city busy with the doings of life.

We recommend gems like St George's Castle, Mr Eiffel´s Elevator, the cake factory in Belém, are all musts dos.
